I remember when he changed his name to Bison Dele, but didn't recall the details of him leaving the NBA to wander the world or his ultimate disappearance. The connection with Patrick Byrne is fascinating as well.

Wow, such a tragic story.  Thought the writing was really well done too; may have to read Chris Ballard's other books and articles some time.  Pleasantly surprised and Sports Illustrated gave him the finances and time that it must have took to actually do that piece.
