Guest
Billionaires didn't get rich by investing in index funds? Ugh...how about insider trading and/or excessive fees then? http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/05/billionaires-didnt-get-rich-by-using-index-funds-leon-cooperman-says.html He also mentioned Gabelli. When you run a dozen funds, of course some will out perform. I looked up a couple of his older ones: http://www.morningstar.com/funds/XNAS/GATAX/quote.html Underperforming S&P 500 over the past years (but is a bit better than the average large blend fund) http://www.morningstar.com/funds/XNAS/GABVX/quote.html Underperforming index and average fund in it's category the past 10 years. Finally we have a winner (though not by a ton)! http://www.morningstar.com/funds/XNAS/GCASX/quote.html Trailing again here over the past decade: http://www.morningstar.com/funds/XNAS/GABEX/quote.html and here Trailing again here over the past decade: http://www.morningstar.com/funds/XNAS/GAGCX/quote.html I literally am looking at his longest managed funds (per morningstar) The only one I saw that has done well besides the one listed about is his market neutral fund. Perhaps he has others that are better performers though.
