Guest ValueCarl Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Google gave no reason for the demotion, but Overstock thinks that its practice of encouraging college students to link to the site is the problem. Google's algorithm assumes that links from .edu domains are from academic sites and gives them more weight than links from other kinds of sites. Overstock discontinued the program on February 10, but some sites were slow to remove their links. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Google-Busts-Overstockcom-For-siliconalley-352126960.html;_ylt=AmyXNawGpWsgNpI.zxZeffO7YWsA;_ylu=X3oDMTE1dDhvamxlBHBvcwM4BHNlYwN0b3BTdG9yaWVzBHNsawNnb29nbGVidXN0c28-?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=5&asset=&ccode=
