hillfronter83 Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 What happened to this? Opened at $4.99 then traded as high as $134/share! Short squeeze?
bizaro86 Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 I spent a portion of today trying to get borrow on this. The A shares didn't go with it, so no fundamental reason I dont think. At my last check IB quoted less than 1% cost of borrow with zero availability, which I thought was interesting.
Foreign Tuffett Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 What happened to this? Opened at $4.99 then traded as high as $134/share! Short squeeze? There are less than 3 million Class B shares outstanding and very low average daily volume. So yeah, someone probably shorted this in size, then got squeezed out (LTRPA up 20% today) and was forced to cover in a situation in which very few shares were available to purchase at any price. That's my best guess.
SHDL Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 The company says they have no idea: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200415005801/en/Liberty-TripAdvisor-Holdings-Issues-Statement-Volatility-Stock And nor do I, but given the tiny float (Maffei alone owns like 97% of the B shares outstanding) I can see how even a small amount of price insensitive buying could make the stock price go up a lot.
