Off of my investment hiatus

After 7 years of reading about stocks when not at work (as a software engineer), I gave up on reading about stocks.

 

It was a good year or so off.  Now I need to get back into the swing of things.  Any advice on what to do with myself?  I was thinking of reading up on some small cap stocks (sub $1B and even sub $100m).  Anything worth considering right now?

 

I currently have a book that I resumed tonight.  So I have that covered not to mention I have a backlog of books I bought and never read.

 

Anyway, what should I do?

Are you saying you spent seven years just reading about stocks and haven't invested yet?  I'd say maybe put some real money to work.

 

There's a learning curve, but once you get over the hump I'd say books on investing provide diminishing returns.  The real gains are through experience.

Hey kfh.  Can you give us some background on what you did, investing-wise, before you took your year off?  Was it just reading?  (There's no problem with this.  We just need to know where you're coming from.)
