Great pick!!! Thanks for sharing!!! =)
I have a question that I'd like to bring it up to folks here. When you encounter cigar butts or mediocre companies like the one above(maybe HLYS is not, but I'm just using as an example), should we invest in them or should we wait for a great company/fat pitch that can give you compound returns.. Once in a while I do come across such companies through screening, and I'm not sure whether I should commit capital into them or just wait for better opportunities....
What are your thoughts? =)

does that mean Lou is not going to be one of the three candidates ?

By the way, it seems like you don't read Value Line? Does anyone read Value Line?
I'm cheap! You can find almost all the information you would ever require on the internet for free. Actually, the biggest source of information for any investor, by far, should be EDGAR.
But once in a while, when Value Line has certain short-term specials (like right now...13 weeks of the Small & Mid-cap Edition for $49), then I will get the print version, which I can keep and dig through over and over through the next year. But I'm not a regular subscriber. Cheers!
I admire you being a true value investor and value reader..... ;D

this might be a really dumb question... but I'm just wondering how we distinguish which companies were bought by Buffett, and which were bought by Lou Simpson or other managers? thanks much =)

i used to work in China's MMOG industry. Perfect World and Shanda are reputable companies. I won't say there is not fraud involved, because nothing is for certain.
The question with MMOG companies is how you value them... can you confidently forecast their future cash flows?? hummmm,,, games are having shorter and shorter life cycle these days in China..
Cheers,

according to the preface he wrote for the Chinese version of Poor Charlie Almanack, he indicated that his returns from 1998 to now is 29% annual return, from 2004 to the end of 2009, annual return is 36%...
cheers..
What else did he talk about?
well, he also described his relationship with munger, how they met, and how he learned from munger, how munger ended up being his investor, influencing him to change from the Julian Robertson style to long-only style, how they have breakfast meeting, etc, etc...
anyway, what i get from his writings in chinese is that he has alot of respect for munger. Munger taught him not just on investing, but how to be a good person.......
For those who can read Chinese, I'm sure you can find this Poor Charlie preface online....
Cheers...
