  1. One bug in the setup that I noticed is that if you select keep me logged in forever it only works if you visit the site without the www. at the front -- http://cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca/forum/

If you are logged in but you try to load http://www.cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca/forum/  (with the www.)

then it will not log you in to the forum.  However, if you just get rid of the www. part of the address it will log you in automatically (if you selected keep me logged in forever).

basically, you should bookmark the address for the forum without the www. part

    or

This may be the pulp mill oldye is referring to.  Harmac Pulp Mill in Nanaimo, BC.  The workers recently bought the mill with assistance from other investors. They have managed to cut their production costs by $100 per tonne.

    http://www.canada.com/Small+mill+worker+owners+continue+defy+dire+predictions/1339939/story.html

In May, 2008, Pope & Talbot went bankrupt and closed Harmac, putting 530 people out of work.

In August, 2008 Nanaimo Forest Products, a coalition of former workers, managers and three private partners, bought Harmac for $13.2 million.

In October, 2008, a workforce of 230 re-started the mill on a reduced scale.

About 40km south of Harmac - Catalyst Paper shut down their Crofton pulp mill indefinitely last week.

  3. Agreed. I am thrilled that they continue to have superb timing/skill with their investment side of the business (and that they continue to surpass analyst expectations), but i would like for them to focus on some better underwriting. If they could do that, they would be the perfect stock.

Congratulations, shareholders, on a fantastic quarter.

Seriously?  Here come the momentum guys... Perfect stock! yes!

I don't care how my companies perform relative to analyst expectations.  Analysts can stick their expectations where the sun don't shine.

  4. Sanjeev,

I am not an expert on this either: but I found some information http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=291694.0 that suggests that publishing the full feed COULD put more processing load on the server. I don't think this will be a problem as this is a relatively small community of readers on this board (less than 2000 if I recall  correctly). For comparison, some forums would likely have 10 or 20 times as many users. Furthermore, I bet a lot of us will continue to access the forum via the website so that we can use other useful features such as the "Show unread posts since last visit" link at the top.

There is some more information about the forum software's RSS settings here:

    http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=25009.0

I believe this setting should only control the max length of each post published in the RSS feed.  It should be safe to experiment with different values.  Keep in mind, if your RSS feed reader caches the content you may need to click refresh to notice the changes to the post length.

  5. sanjeev,

you can see how this works and looks by going to http://www.google.com/reader

You will need a Google account to login (doesn't have to be a Gmail account, you can make an account with another email address).

After you are logged in... you can then click "Add Subscription" in the top left of the page http://www.google.com/reader  ....In the small popup box that appears just type in cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca  --- this will add the RSS feed to your Google Reader account.  However, you will notice that it only lets you read the first couple of lines of each post.  To read the whole post it forces you to go back to the cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca/forum website.  To allow users to read the whole post in Google Reader you would need to enable the full RSS feed as described by Omagh above.
