  1. The other point that I think is relevant here is obesity.

The article below indicates that the risk of death from Covid-19 is about 10 times higher in countries where most of the population is overweight.  While I am admittedly one of the dumbest people on this forum the numbers seem to indicate that if you are younger than 40/50 and not overweight you are most likely not going to die from covid.  Again, Covid sucks and I hope everyone stays safe.  It just isn't sound logic to infer that people should get a vaccine if it doesn't benefit them.  I think there's a cohort of folks here who seem to think everyone should be vaccinated and I don't understand the reasoning.

Chances of death are very low but you can still get very sick and incur permanent damage to your lungs or organs. Even if you are healthy. Not just theoretical, I know someone 40ish and healthy and fit that had this happen.  They have lung damage, it's permanent.  They also went through complete hell for 2 weeks.

Israel has vaccinated over half their population and haven't reported any issues.  The pharma companies aren't based there so they have no reason to lie about the effectiveness.  I feel at this point it's quite a remote chance the vaccine is more dangerous than covid.
Workers in the research centres do have an interest to help foreign pharma look good and collaborate with them. Politicians who have spent public budget on this, do want to win votes (for the elections less a week ago, and the upcoming.). Medical system, which is obligatory, want to show how their ability to give shot is like the best thing ever. Talks have started about opening factories of pharma companies in Israel...

Legislation makes it not obligatory to test for those who have taken 2nd shot, tests done by the medical system without impartial supervision, same goes with reporting side effects from the shots they gave, researches bomb the media with their predetermined conclusions...

Now, the shots are likely to prove good. Decision in favor is easier to certain people, who are at a greater risk, and risk less by taking it (my parents took it for example. While I opted to declining it, as undoing vaccination is not possible.). But I believe that claiming Israel has no reason to show effectiveness of the vaccine is wrong, and there's very little control over it.

  2. According to this article https://yalehealth.yale.edu/yale-covid-19-vaccine-program/who-should-and-shouldnt-get-covid-19-vaccine the only folks who shouldn't get vaccinated are those who might be allergic to one of the ingredients.

Not sure what % of the population meets this criteria.

Well, it comes from a covid19 vaccine program. Wouldn't expect the conclusion not to be biased.

That being said, I do support such publications (well... just replace should with could) and hope countries will make it possible to vaccinate children, babies and pets, just so people would calm down. And by this reduce the risk of making vaccination obligatory.

  3. Viking, I advise you'd check the recent, and not so recent past of Edelstein before taking his words as anything honest.

As for encouraging results for other countries, maybe an addition of tax payers from Israel settling there after finally it eventually opens the borders.

  4. Job title/description: ML Engineer

    Industry you work in: Automotive

    City and Country: Israel

Anything expected or unexpected from being forced to work from home: We are way ahead of schedule. Mainly because open space in the office doesn't fit the culture of the country. Remote sessions with the US are also easier to schedule now. This is nice and all, but personally I really like meeting the people at the office.

I believe management will want us back to desks ASAP as our colleagues in the US did complain about issues regarding working from home. Government is also pushing tech to be the first non essential sector to break confinement and commute, because they need our income tax and have no idea how performance of actual work should be measured.

  5. So far best response: South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore.

Is it because they all have mandatory military service for men and the people are more alert about incoming threats (from North Korea, China, Malaysia)?

    Something to consider?

Israel also has mandatory service. We are not very disciplined to say the least, and military service makes us question authority even more.

Honestly, I see no reason to be alert. Deaths reported here are of people in their 80's and 90's. In case there's curfew, I'll comply only not to get fined.

  6. Love: Luxire is probably my all-around favorite company. They're a clothing company that describes themselves as ebespoke which is accurate--definitely a league above MTM and as close to true bespoke as you can get. Their quality and prices are unbelievable and their motto is they don't say no to anything. If you dream it they will produce it. I buy damn near all my clothes from them now.

    +1
  7. As a private investor in his late 20's, I say take the university route.

Wouldn't recommend doing both seriously (that's what I did), as you would have no time for socializing.

Apart of that "social time value", I'm also quite sure you would put into use the skills and mindset you get from formal education.

Being a bum to your relatives is no problem. But try to explain to your girlfriend's parents what you do...

Also, do you think about pursuing a financial related degree, or something more general that could give you also an edge as a poker player?

  8. Let me get this straight.  Restricting banks use of leverage to buy the riskiest and, ultimately, money losing investments will hurt their returns?

I highly recommend the last JPM annual as a reading material. The way they assume the consequences of such restrictions is discussed there in a really sensible way.

Sure those are only assumptions, yet a really great read.

  9. I scanned the Annual and most recent Q and cant find details on the CDS and what they are holding except that they were in deficity at both periods, and the notional is 3.5 B.

You might find your answer in the annual statutory report.

Here's the relevant page from ORH annual statutory statement (which is publicly available, and I've got with the kind help of Odyssey's team). Unfortunately I don't have the same data for FFH.

    ORH CDS

  10. One of the most successful retailer in the last decade might be ZARA. The store in my city has people lining up to the cashier like they get freebie. And I heard that they spend almost nothing in advertising. No tv commercial, etc.

Thats a good point. I have never seen a ZARA commercial.

    Because there aren't any.

I understood they focus on the display window.

The things one learns as a shopping mule... :P
