Inflation was a remnant of the Pandemic as global supply chains struggled to keep up with demand as it rotated through various goods. Inflation trended down significantly as Biden's term wound down. Housing is a global issue. Nothing to do with Biden...we have the same problem here...in Europe...in Australia. Supply was low, immigration, investment and demand were high. Agree with you on some of the social policies...but that wasn't just Biden. Some of the social policies under Trump are equally appalling! What happens is that trade evaporates between tariffed countries, while trade burgeons between non-tariffed countries. If citizens feel the pain of tariffs, they realign where they do business and whom they do it with. As big as the U.S. market is, it will now permanently lose some business with other nations, and those nations will permanently lose some business with the U.S. It's not that tariffs don't work, but it's like nuking someone instead of moving your soldiers to the front line and negotiating. With Covid, we didn't know how it would end...what if it had wiped out 500M people worldwide? And business did come to a screeching halt! With this, we do know it will end some day, and that things will return to normal. The problem is what will be the knock-off consequences that we have no way of knowing? I think this is just the beginning. Although it depends on how long the tariffs are in place. I think markets will react more as poor data flows through in the next 2-4 quarters. Almost certainly we are going to see a global recession if these tariffs last 3-6 months. It's the knock off effects I'm worried about. I think this one may be the most dangerous one of them all. Because of Beijing's lack of transparency, we don't know what effect this will have on the Chinese economy and then subsequently on the loan portfolios of Chinese financial institutions. I can definitely see something like 2008/2009 happening in Asia, which long-term would benefit the United States, but in the short-term could lead to a global calamity. The dominoes will now fall where they will and we'll have to wait and see if this is an Asian flu or an Asian depression. If it is the latter, I don't think the world has enough firepower to cure it. The Austrians might like this one, since we may just have to grin and bear it! Then again, what else would you expect from a fucking moron who has filed bankruptcy six times, avoided 34 felony charges, makes numerous attempts to amend the Constitution and essentially has lied his whole God-damn life! No, some of us did...60% cash down to 50% cash...plenty of firepower for this absolutely stupid and ridiculous tariff war. Let's not pretend we all don't know what this is. People earning up to $400,000 a year suddenly paying through their nose for their day to day, month to month needs. A tax grab that will have negligible effect on the top 5% and will result in massive revenues to apply to the big tax cut that will come down the road. Yes, it will bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. It will reduce corporate taxes and probably capital gains related taxes in the future. And there will be a big boom on the back end! But this all could have been achieved by tough negotiations of existing trade agreements, not supported on the backs of the lower, middle and upper classes and without the country going into a recession. As well, the raging volatility in the markets and uncertainty for small businesses could have been avoided. How will it affect me? I will be a beneficiary, because I'm sitting on a ton of cash to take advantage of the situation. But most will not be lucky other than the top 5% where the increased costs will have negligible impact on their overall wealth and day to day lives! Cheers!
