  1. Re: WEB's Coke Response / This is my take. Warren may be biased on several levels. Not the least of which is the fact he's 85, doing great and drinking as much Coke as he wants to. Some things work well for some people and some things don't. / We could always vote for a prohibition type amendment making sugar water products illegal. I'm sure that would go over well... / At some point, personal responsibility kicks in. People should have the freedom to decide for themselves. I'm sure grilled hamburgers are not that great for you, but I think the entire country would riot if the government said we couldn't eat hamburgers. / My grandmother lived to be 102. She ate whatever she wanted, but she ate in moderation. Maybe that's something smart to try? (She liked Pepsi, not Coke...)
  2. Very sorry to hear about this as it creates a lot of extra work for you on top of all that you are doing already. I have noticed my Norton Security has given me several warnings when I've logged onto this site in the last month. This is not a complaint but just information in case it is of any benefit. Rick
  3. Buffett originally announced tickets were going to be limited to two for each shareholder. Per this article and confirmed by people who have already received their meeting registration cards, it has gone back to four. http://www.examiner.com/x-7944-Warren-Buffett-Examiner~y2010m3d31-Buffetts-Berkshire-Hathaway-returns-ticket-allotment-to-four
  4. From: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35087100/ns/business-stocks_and_economy/ Buffett said he expects Berkshire will benefit from joining the S&P indexes, saying it will suddenly have buyers for about 6 percent of its shares because many investment funds buy stock in the companies in the S&P indexes to mirror the moves of the indexes. And those mutual fund buyers would plan to hold the stock long-term, which is what Buffett wants.
  5. Justin Fuller is one of the people at Midway. He's a former Morningstar analyst who's written several articles on Berkshire and attended the Yellow BRKers party this past May in Omaha. If it were a little closer it would be interesting to attend. Rick
  6. Received this info from Carol Loomis: You are right that shareholders were not given an update on the Protégé bet. That’s because Protégé does not yet have audited figures from the five fund-of-funds involved in the bet, and Warren is not willing to announce results without having audited figures. My guess is that this will mean that if anything is ever to be released at the Berkshire annual meeting, the data will be a year old, because I doubt that Protégé will ever have audited figures by May. Perhaps it will happen that some announcement is made at a time different from the annual meeting—at a time, that is, when Protégé does have audited figures. Rick Mayhew/St. Louis
  7. This article from Fortune in June 2008 indicates they would update the status of the bet each year, probably at the annual meeting. I don't remember hearing anything about it. Is there some news I missed? Rick / St. Louis, MO http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/04/news/newsmakers/buffett_bet.fortune/index.htm
  8. Feel free to join the Yellow BRKers party Friday evening starting at 4:00. Please register so a name tag can be provided. Rick From http://yellowbrkers.blogspot.com/ Berkshire Hathaway shareholders from all online communities are welcome to an unofficial gathering on Friday, May 1, 2009. You are invited to join as fellow shareholders unofficially gather on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Omaha to meet and have fun, starting at 4:00 pm and you can linger until 7:00 pm (or longer). There will be a short program at approximately 5:00 or 5:30. This is a casual atmosphere, with light snacks available. It's a "happy hour" type of gathering - not a formal dinner or anything of that sort. The DoubleTree is located on 16th and Dodge. There may be some street parking, otherwise, one can use the parking garage with an entrance from the South at 16th & Dodge street, just east of the First National Bank.
