  1. how the hell do you research a stock 500 hours. Maybe that is a sign you need to look for easier investments? Or maybe he says that to get more investor money?
  2. oh lol nevermind. 1100$ tho. jesus.
  3. Not a question, but a piece on it by credit suisse. Thought it was an interesting read. http://ify.valuewalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/document-805915460.pdf some thoughts on it? For example they say, when earnings decline 10% in perpetuity with a 10% cost of capital, it deserves a 4.5 multiple. But something like that seems a bit too simple. Because alot of businesses still have a place, so they stabilize at some point. How do you factor that in? For a 5% that formula would dictacte a 6.3x multiple.
  4. So technically hes right. It is rigged right? BUT it is only rigged like a tiny percentage. So in the case of calling Einhorn a fish, he is wrong. Since einhorn makes like 20% a year or something, and only loses very tiny percentages over this. It really seems the case here that nobody is truly hurt here. Only so little that it is barely noticable. But people have a feeling it is unfair, and easy money is made by rich people, so they are pissed. Or they dont understand it, and think because of this you cant make money in the stock market. Am I right here, or missing something?
  5. High quality expensive clothes (so not just expensive like some brands) are worth the money most of the time imo. Ofcourse within reason. Im not talking about 400$ jeans, that is ridicilous. I now buy 40-50 euro t shirts. I used to buy 10 euro shirts, but they would always go bad after washing them a few times. And the fabric didnt feel nearly as nice on my skin. When I buy expensive shirts from a good brand, they will still look and feel the same after 3 years. And there is intangible value in looking good in your daily life. And if your clothes fit really well, look nice and feel nice on the skin, then you feel better about yourself as well. So i think buying the cheapest possible clothes doesn't get you your money worth in the end. Especially if you can easily afford it.
  6. why not? Usually you post pretty intelligent stuff. I keep seeing this, but I find it hard to define what makes a good investor. If you could break it down, then you know what to get better at no?
  7. http://i.imgur.com/3PINbKK.png?1 He couldn't even beat up the little chinese guy in his 40's .
  8. lol based on what ASSumptions is the plan financed/solvent? Only if they dont make another drug bust very soon.
  9. i read somewhere a while back that michael burry also had something to do with this and was collecting funds just for that. Anyone have more info on that?
  10. with this logic you would rat out your neighbour to the police for smoking some weed in his back yard. I would start to think, who is really hurt by this? If something is illegal I dont give a shit, drinking whiskey was illegal in the 30's..
  11. I think your suggestion is probably better, but costs more time to implement I think. My idea should be quick to do right? copy paste a few codes in the forum software, or however that works, and you have a new subforum.
  12. yeah i think there is alot of pricing power he has. Can easily make the fee 50$. Getting close to 100$ and you might lose alot of people. One negative about a rating of individual posts is that people are mostly sheep to some gradation. You are more likely to upvote if a post has alot of upvotes already. And it might deter people to post stupid things. Which can sometimes get interesting replies (or might not be so stupid after all). It also might deter people to post criticism on ideas being posted here. But I like the idea of rating posters in general. And english is not my first language :) . Usually dont pay that much attention to spelling anyway when posting.
  13. Since alot of smart people with interesting information post on this forum, which makes it basicly like some kind of online database or learning tool. But there can also be quite a bit of noise. The general discussion subforum shows 463 pages, and I am sure there is interesting stuff somewhere in there, posted in maybe 2010 that I havent read yet. Same thing for future posters, who will never read alot of v interesting stuff that is being posted now. So why not make a sub forum with a best of thread? For example ericopoly made a bunch of interesting posts about options. And I am sure there are many others, why not put them in a sub forum where they are easy to find? Seems like a pretty easy change right? Only difficult part is how to decide what should be in the best off part. that can probably be more work.
  14. yeah i think buffett just targets a wide group with not a deep level of understanding yet. He could probably tell you alot more interesting details, but he just focusses on educating the largest group of people. I really liked that new agy idea of his. From experience, very true. Except when he says P&G cannot put lipstick on a pig. Don't they sell toothpaste that claims to whiten teeth? I might be wrong about this. But basicly that is complete bs and proven wrong already, it doesnt whiten teeth, and doesn't really offer that much more compared to what you pay for. And like NIKE. Everybody believes you need expensive running shoes, but in the end once you get used to it, minimalist running shoes are waay better. Speaking from experience here :) . Even the guy who made the first running shoe for Nike quickly came around on this. Yet it was wildly succesfull. So I am not sure if it really applies to companies and products. Since subconsciously, if the person who sells it to you, really believes his own lie, then you wont pick up any bullshit signals in body lanuage or facial ticks? Or maybe the connection between subconscious and conscious is just way too clogged for most people?
  15. Ok thanks, I will take a look at it.
  16. yeah but thats the thing, I have met quite a few who claimed that. And in every case they didnt even try it once. I had a neighbour who was extremly cheap. He wouldnt heat up his food because that cost energy lol (and then load up triple when he ate with us). He would buy jeans for really cheap. Claiming it was ridicilous that people paid for brands. Then once he tried on a pair of levi's that were like 4x the price, and now he only wears those. I know a girl who claimed she wasn't interested in sex. Then when she tried it once when she was like 23, she turned into this sex craving maniac afterwards, and completly changed her view. Same for 2 guys, and one has a girlfriend now I think. I knew a vegetarian who litterally never tried meat, then came around when he tried it once. And I know from personal experience how you can just fool yourself into thinking you dont like or need something and just impair how much you really can get out of life. I was judging a bit prematurely here I guess. But my point is, people think they dont need or like something and you never really know untill you tried it properly.
  17. 1) You didn't need to be rude about it. 2) You have no facts at all to make you think this was the case here. 3) By that standard, maybe you are a crackwhore projecting your own problems on others. Who knows, right? no but whenever someone claims they dont need things like friends or sex I usually assume they are lying to themselves or to me. 90% lie, 10% it is actually true. And that is just from experience. Actually being like that, and not having those impulses is just statistically so rare. Not sure how that would make me a crackwhore. More power to scott if hes the last 10% and is actually happy with this.
  18. Why should he do things he doesn't want to do? To please you? If it made him unhappy, he'd make a change. People are different and have different needs. You might want to open your mind to that fact. well i dont really give a shit either way, i am just curious. But you could make the same argument you are making for a crackwhore. Or for someone who is depressed. Or for anyone with mental issues really. People dont work perfectly rational like you say. they can put themselves in shitty situations and lie to themselves that they are perfectly happy. Or that it is the 'best' option if they are trapped in it by their mental issues or circumstances. I met a few people who claimed they werent interested in sex, and I was pretty sure they were all lying to themselves. Because if you really arent interested in women, then their beauty shouldn't phase you much right? And usually it did, and they were awkward as hell around good looking women. And they also appeared sort of frustrated usually with a bit of a short fuse. I also knew someone who was in debt and after a while he started claiming that money wasn't important at all in life. But he was clearly pretty jealous of my situation. It is more sort of an ego defense system that kicks in after a while after you start to think you will never attain it anyway. You will just make yourself believe that you dont need it. Then there is the person who went through a bad break up, and now claims relationships wont make him or her happy anymore. Can go on about this. There is a large gap between knowing what makes you happy, and what actually makes you happy in the end. And unless you gave it all a serious try, you dont really know what your missing I think. People lie to themselves for lots of reasons. That was my reason for posting that.
  19. mpauls, I also think Ray dalio would genuinely love to hear those points. From what i have read from him. Seems to be a culture that even the lowest level employees can call him out on stuff, and are encouraged to do so.
  20. If he was an old black man, he would know it all. I learned that from movies, old black janitors usually know everything.
  21. Thanks for that article. Bodymetrics looks really interesting. I think this is where the real money is. If you can develop a great body-mapping product, it will solve a lot of problems for online fashion retailers. Issues with clothing size are probably the most important thing that's holding online retailers back and a competitive advantage for traditional stores. I think Amazon would pay a lot of money for a startup that is able to solve that problem. They're probably working on a solution themselves. At some point the problem will be solved by someone. An online shop could automatically filter out all the products that don't fit you. People would worry less about a product not fitting and be more inclined to shop for clothes online. Product returns would go down, driving down costs. Online shopping for clothes would become much more attractive to consumers and the cost advantages and convenience compared to shopping at a B&M store would become more important to them. isnt the problem also to know what clothes fit to that size? That is something that is constantly changing. There are roughly 3 body types, and getting your body type and measurements shouldnt be that hard? How would you match up certain measurements effectively against like a L Hugo boss sweater? It also seems that it is in the interest of a clothing line to not make this too efficient right? You want this to be uncertain so people stick to your brand once they found something they like. And you want people who dont fit for your brand to buy as much clothes before they move on to another brand. If it becomes more efficient, people buy less clothes.
  22. Also on VIC I think. If you tell a nice story with interesting details, the valuation might not be as good, but your idea seems to be higher rated.
  23. yeah and it seems easier then ever to get funding for start ups. This should also appeal to people who dont want to spend much on clothes. Or want to put together a nice outfit on a budget. It would work like an online app where you can compose your own outfits on some virtual model, and then you are directed to the place where they sell these exact clothes. It would be a time saver , and you can put together nicer outfits. And it would have built in little hints like, what colors not to put together etc. ANd it would be free. I think you would need other ways to monetize this. And to build up a database of where to get what clothes, you simply go to clothing stores to ask for their inventory. I am sure you could provide them something in return for this small service. Basicly it would make shopping more efficient and effective if you are not savvy with picking out nice clothes. And most men arent I think. No this is different, you cannot quickly compose your outfit, and it is more expensive. Also a limited selection I think. It is more an advanced online clothing store. My idea is more a broker idea, wouldn't sell any clothes.
  24. Im posting this because I have an idea and not the skills to execute, and would like some suggestions. I was looking at some pictures of some v well dressed celebrities, and thought to myself that I dress pretty badly. And the reason is not money, but I just dont like shopping. Usually i cant find much, and end up just buying something. Because I dont feel like spending 3 hours walking in and out of stores and trying alot of things on. Usually after half an hour I am sick of it already. I also dont know where to find stores with well priced but solid clothes. ANd buying online sucks, becuase you cant fit it. So how about a website that helps you with this, and makes it much easier and less time consuming? First you enter sizes of your own clothes to determine the users size . This is because different sized clothes fit differently. Armani's XL is some other brands M. This would be handy if you just want to order online. But I could see how this part is difficult to execute. Then you can put together your own outfit on the website. Try different combinations, and maybe get some suggestions which colors go well together. Get suggestions and pictures of different styles. You could ofcourse easily share pictures on facebook to get feedback. Then after you are done, you are shown where to buy these clothes online or in the area close to you (maybe put in your area before you put together your outfit). I think the execution part requires a knowledge of fashion, and will take up alot of time of putting together a database of clothes and how well they fit. Also a database of where to buy which clothes. This is probably quite a bit of work. But if this would exist, I would use the shit out of it. Because I hate and suck at clothes shopping. But I like to look good :) . Thoughts (on execution, keeping off competition etc)?
