Newport News Kmart in Denbigh to close http://www.dailypress.com/business/tidewater/dp-newport-news-kmart-in-denbigh-to-close-20140207,0,4248075.story Mention store closings in 2012 and 2013, also another SHC Realty plug: "The company announced at the start of 2012 that it would close up to 120 Kmart and Sears stores after a dismal holiday shopping season. It closed 61 Kmart stores and 131 Sears stores in the first nine months of 2012 and 52 Kmarts and 16 Sears stores in the first nine months of 2013, according to a financial filing submitted with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The online list also includes the Denbigh Kmart and the attached Auto Center and the closed Sears property at the Military Circle Mall in Norfolk, among other operating stores in Hampton Roads."

  6. Nice find! I like this quote in particular... The deal is raising interest from New York investment company Stone House Capital Management, LLC, which is researching whether to invest in Sears. “We do see a lot of value in some of the ... brands Sears has,” including Land’s End, said Julian Tatz of Stone House Capital Management. “Retail looks like it’s not going to really turn out too well, but we’re looking at the whole picture, not only retail.”

  10. A few posts above your question on this thread was info on where the author might have been looking for his numbers... I haven't read this guy's report, but if he's referring to the 10-K non-guarantor subsidiary breakdown, then he is including more than just Sears Re, and he's including intercompany receivables. So that basically makes me think I shouldn't be wasting my time on this report. kraven explained it pretty well that the report has no merit.
  11. bmichaud, you asked the following... A few posts above your question on this thread was info on where the author might have been looking for his numbers...
  12. Read the few posts before yours and you'll see where the guy might have got the numbers.
  13. Page 6 of the article: "It would seem that, with $35 billion in assets, Sears Reinsurance must certainly be engaged in business outside Sears and Kmart risks... but company filings are largely mum on the topic." hellsten, excellent find.
  14. Has anybody been able to find anything useful on Sears Re's float? Thanks.

  16. Assuming the prefs that he bought were the FNMAS (par $25), that would mean his cost basis is around $5.00... or roughly where the shares are trading today.
