How about the car just slams the brakes as hard as possible and doesn't swerve. If a person steps into the road with no time for a car to stop that is a tragedy. Why should it be the driver's responsibility to risk his own well-being or others by swerving?

Stopped watching TV in 2011

Here's a 2 hour audio clip of the Q & A. It includes everything except the very first question (which Charlie said happened to be the most intelligent question ever asked at the meeting, haha)
Well, I have to ask then. What was the first question? TIA.
My recollection is he asked what milestones Charlie expects to see in the legal publishing business. Charlie responded that it was an important question because it affects the entire future of the company.

If you're interested in having typed notes PM me. I think the spirit of Charlie's meetings is in sharing wisdom for nothing in return. If we get enough people interested we can pool the cost of having my audio file converted to text.

He bought a ton of BRK on margin.. I think these results are largely a function of leverage
You're clearly not an investor in the fund.

Trying to recall a quote made by Munger regarding the culture of Berkshire's annual meeting. It may have been said at a meeting as well. It was something to the effect of, "all these people aren't here because of the shareholder returns, there's a culture of intellectual curiosity. And why wouldn't I like being a part of that?"
Can anyone recall him making this comment?

Thanks Rob! Much appreciated.

I couldn't agree more. For whatever the reason is, Musk is doing more for humanity than all of the engineers in the world who are enviously bitching that Musk isn't very smart combined. There is a creative aspect to doing important, beneficial, and successful things as well. Musk not only has sufficient intelligence to be as successful as he's been, but he also has vision, creativity, relentlessness, business acumen, and a shit load of guts. In my 19 years as an engineer, I've known absolutely brilliant people who have none of those other qualities which Musk has. I've had many arguments with fellow engineers, who are much smarter than I am, who always want to do things the hard way simply because they can, who want to add unnecessary features that no customer will ever need or use and will add to the cost, time, and complexity of the product, simply because it's possible to do, etc. There are so many brilliant people in one narrow area of knowledge who have not a lick of common sense what-so-ever and who do ridiculous things. I have very little respect for anyone who would belittle the intelligence of someone like Musk. Why would you make such a fool of yourself? Envy really is an ugly thing.
Well said

What, if anything, would you do differently if you got those earlier years back?

Elon Musk does AMA on reddit. Reddit goes crazy.

Thanks for bringing that up! Much appreciated.

I bought 100 shares of USO purely as a hedge against a future rise in oil prices.

If you are a man then don't get married. I'm sure you've heard them before, but if you want I can tell you some horror stories to illustrate why. Losing half your assets isn't even the half of it.
I do want to hear some horror stories. Post here or PM

Rule 3, can only be whispered in Becky Quick's or Liz Claman's ear.
Hahaha
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm just asking this question out of curiosity. I'm not married and haven't even considered it yet.

How does a man with an ultra high net worth protect himself financially from a wife who'd like to leave with half? Are billionaires protecting themselves financially with anything other than a prenup?
...serious replies only.

I know he likes to interrupt folks and talk a lot ...I didn't realize he was a M.I.T. Grad
Neither did MIT.

Resuscitating this from the dead...the post above discusses, among other topics, Joe Kernan. Well, this little clip from earlier today demonstrates the level with which he is ill-equipped to be on television. Really sorry stuff.

That was brutal. He wasn't just rude, he made an idiot of himself.
Elon Musk...human?

The harder I work the more I appreciate how super-human Elon is. I've found that an increase in work hours per week gets exponentially more difficult the closer you get to 100. I can hardly tell the difference between a 40 and 50 hr work week. The difference between a 80 hr and 90 hr work week is huge. Elon is churning out 80-100 hr work weeks in two fields infinitely more difficult than mine. It's hard to comprehend. And I admire the hell out of it.
Edit: Thanks for posting that link, Liberty. That was very entertaining.
