Guest JohnReuwer Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I am interested in the board's opinion on discount brokers for bonds/fixed income purchases. I currently use Schwab but their bond selection is anemic. I am but a mere retail investor with a personal portfolio so a full-service broker is out of the question. Any suggestions/experiences? Thanks!
JAllen Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Interactive Brokers has a complete list of bond/preferred stock offerings that are available on their web page I believe. I would ask each one for a list. It seems like each one should publish a list if they offer a diverse selection. I have been satisfied with IB's selection but it is by no means complete. Probably 8/10 that I ever wanted to get quotes on they had and they probably have virtually all large cap issues.
arbitragr Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Most bonds are over the counter (OTC), or the most in-demand ones with best yields/terms. At a retail level you probably won't get the best up-to-date pricing.
