Canadian equivalent of property appraiser/assessor info

In the US, there are offices of real property appraiser/assessor, usually at county or municipal level. They all have websites with public info on each real estate property in the jurisdiction -- prior sales, appraised value, ownership, number of bedrooms/baths, etc. In Canada, it seems that this info is not public. Is that correct, or am I not looking well enough?

I have been looking for a zillow-like website too, to no avail.  Zoocasa doesn't come close.

 

For BC, there's the government website at http://evaluebc.bcassessment.ca/Default.aspx 

 

It provides the public with annual assessed property values and sales record for the past year.  No info about the home layout though.

Turar: Depends on the jurisdiction. Some allow the information to be public (i.e. Montreal, Laval, etc.); others restrict the viewing to property owners only (and real estate agents, lawyers, etc.).

Ontario has a specially dedicated agency for that : the MPAC (see mpac.on.ca).

 

I suppose it's roughly the same elsewhere. So you have to fetch a bit.
