Warren Buffett’s Bank of America warrants are perilously close to out-of-the-money territory on Friday.

BofA is said to be considering — not seriously according to the WSJ — issuing “tracker stocks” on Merrill Lynch.

 

Like the Beta Band, tracker stocks peaked in the late 1990s, as companies used them to take advantage of the ridiculous valuations being placed on their internet retail arms. But even then, it was unclear what benefit they had for investors over an ordinary share sale in a subsidiary or a demerger.
