Guest Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 According to Morningstar, TWEBX fund has underperformed the S&P 500 over the past 3, 5, 10 and 15 years (and since inception in 1993). I believe this was a US focused fund 8 years or so ago. Does 23 years count as long term yet? If go with MSCI ACWI Ex USA (a more accurate index), they've underperformed the past 15 years (but did overcome it over 3, 5, and 10 years). TBGVX has done pretty well though (for a world fund).
Guest Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 So from inception to 2000 TWEBX underperformed S&P 500 by a large extent. From inception to 2007 they're about even. From inception to 2009, TWEBX outperformed by a large extent. From inception to 2014, $10,000 in TWEBX would be worth $61,851 vs VFIAX (S&P 500) $62,137. So for a 20 year period (with 2 giant bubbles) but strategies performed almost exactly the same (that's pretty wild if you think about it). Since then TWEBX is now around $69,000 vs $106,000 for VFIAX. I wonder if we'll have another convergence sometime.
