What are your thoughts on PAR's two acquisitions that were just announced?

I don't know anything about the acquired firms but press release looks good. I noticed Greenhaven called out which is good because they have a solid track record. PAR is a "bet the jockey" investment for me but I have a pretty small position.

Yeah. I thought maybe if value snaps back it will really rip. I evaluated their historical correlations and factor regressions and haven't got to yes so far.

It could certainly be Value's time to shine but that has been a tricky game to play for some time now.

  3. My speculation on BRK slimming down(or eventually exiting) only BHE was based on the various comments in the letter -- broken social contract, increasing regulatory burden, not throwing good money after bad, "costly mistake"

Very different situation with insurance compared to energy -- no mention of regulatory pressure, still gushing mucho $$ and BRK is a master at operating in this area.

Then, you may want so send a memo to Omaha to help them realize they are doing some regulated business in California.

Buffett in 2023 letter just issuing an empty threat then? I suppose he learned nothing at all when he finally jettisoned the namesake business(textile) and admitted numerous times that he carried that dead weight for far too long.

When did the insurance businesses become part of BHE?

  5. The Enterprise Ethereum Alliance has nothing to do with the currency aspect. Big names in that alliance have no impact to the speculative aspect of ETH. The alliance is interested in the enterprise aspect of the technology -- permissioned networks, secure data sharing, smart contracts, etc.

  6. He mentioned in a recent interview that he did not want to expound on what had changed in his mind to make him bullish on Airlines.  The implication in his tone was that he was still buying shares and had no interest in adding to a 'Buffett Premium' halo-effect around airline stock prices.  As Charlie has confirmed, it is a lot like the Freight Rail business - over time, through consolidation, a "rationalization" occurs when you get an oligopoly.  A bad business can turn OK when it consolidates into a rational oligopoly.  Warren may still be buying airline equity - and it may ultimately turn out like the Freight Rail basket, with Berkshire owning 100% of one the the major US airlines and selling the rest of the basket to satisfy merger conditions / help pay for the acquisition.  Less likely than the BNSF deal, but not all that crazy.

Interesting. And I agree with you.

  7. Personally I don't care where Obama was born. Sure, there's the constitutional issue but that'll be changed one day as it really shouldn't be a qualification. You shouldn't need to be born here to become our best leader. In Obama's case, even if he were born elsewhere, if our presidents primary job is to represent our country I think he did a bang up job, and voted twice for him for that alone. That said, what he actually accomplished he can go to hell for.

But I wouldn't call the birthers crazy either. There are plenty of issues with both Obama's birth certificate and college record that he could have been more forthright with them. It took him years to share his birth certificate, and that thing is sketchy as hell, and to this day he has refused to share his college record. Given that and all the suspicions, I'd take terrible odds on a bet that he actually isn't a US citizen. But again, that doesn't matter to me.

Note: if you're curious why I would vote twice for a guy based only on the way he carried himself, even though I detested what he was actually doing, pre-Trump they all sucked beans. I felt, what the hell, Romney will be as bad anyway. They all lied, they all bullshitted, not an iota of their public appearance was ever real. They did what their party's and pac's told them to do, America be damned. Between Reagan to Trump the swamp had become so bad no one cared about voting anymore.

I still vote. I don't know why because it's become a circus, but i do.

    Edit: MAGA

The Hawaii Sec of State I believe stated that Obama's birth cert was genuine. I am interested in hearing your explanation on why the SOS would be ready to take a bullet(in case it was proven that the cert was false).

Also Trump announced that his investigators in HI were finding incredible and unbelievable things. 5+ years later we still wait for those findings. The incredible BS spouting king that this Orange Julius is, I would not be surprised if there never were any investigators in the first place.
