Real Estate Investing Blogs/Books/Resources

Ragnar has some RE stuff on his blog, although it doesn't focus on passive investments outside of Sitestar.  TWO harbors is planning to spin out a residential real estate subsidiary soon which could be interesting, depending on price.  I've also owned America First Tax Exempt Investors (ATAX) for a while in income portfolios and it has been decent for a passive investment (it's an LP though).  My wife is a full time real estate investor focusing on complete renovations of blighted properties in New Orleans, so most of the blogs I follow focus on renovation/construction.

The American Home is a real estate partnership run by a value oriented hedge fund manager Aaron Edelhiet. He ran Sabre Value then around 2009-2010ish, he went all in on residential real estate beginning in the Atlanta area and then expanding. They currently have around 1000 SFH's that are owned and available for rent.

As far as specifics of the partnership's returns or leverage, I do not know, but it fits your criteria of passive RE investing.  Not too many have been able to successfully scale SFH to this degree.

I tend to follow local broker blogs and information for my market area (Minneapolis & St. Paul, Minnesota). There are several in my market area that are very useful in tracking local activity (Local Realtor Association etc...). Also, we have a publication called the Finance & Commerce that is a daily paper that tracks the market closely and provides permit, judgments, foreclosure information. They are owned by The Dolan Company (http://www.thedolancompany.com/) which may have the equivalent in your area.

From a blog/publication perspective, depending on your passive investment interest.

This blog has a nice feed: http://blackswanzine.com/

This magazine is a good free magazine and blogs: http://nreionline.com/

Ragnar - check out this little gem we looked at this morning.  My friend got this place for back taxes and narrowly averted a city demolition.  This is a warehouse from the 1800's that will be turned into commercial up front with 8 residential units behind.  The front collapsed into the street in the middle of negotiations to purchase!
