Peter Schiff at the DNC

Given all the politics of late, this video should generate some discussion (or laughs).  I don't know how the Democrats allowed a guy like Peter Schiff into the building.

I just love the lady right at the end of the video... "You happen to be one of the smartest people I've met since I've been down here."  Too funny.

I've been trying to stay out of the political discussions, but come on guys . . .

You really think Peter Schiff going out to the DNC convntion, interviewing certain individuals, editing the video, and then posting on YouTube gives an accurate view of the Democratic base?  I guaranty you if someone had done that at the GOP convention, you would have gotten just as idiotic responses from some of the individuals there.  You know, Randian-type raving.

Also, I just have to say that Peter Schiff is an idiot.

O.K., the interviews were edited to show only the euphemistic "Yellow Dog Democrats" only.  Yes, the right has their equivalents too.  Therefore in the two party system, one is only trying to nudge the 5% that is not the core.  After a lifetime of branding, it is hard to switch party affiliations.  As we know from our investing efforts, Brand name recognition works.

It is important for the parties strategically to keep their core base supporting them, and you see pandering on both sides for this very reason.

Ultimately, though, you have to be somewhat centrist in your campaign to get elected as President in the US.  Now whether you will remain centrist in office is another thing.

You also need to appeal to large "groups" that could have a disproportionate influence in the vote if they were to vote as a bloc and potentially nudge you to victory.  Hence the focus on women voters in both conventions.  And Hispanics.

These things are carefully staged, folks.

It's probably cherry-picking, but I think betting against the stupidity of a randomly-selected voter is a losing bet.  On the left and right.

I wouldn't call most voters stupid, although I would say that most voters are not very well informed.  I think that most people are highly susceptible to being influenced by the questions that they are asked, and when you ask a stupid question in a twisted way, a lot of people will answer in a stupid way.

It's seems likely to me that if you were to actually have a real conversation about profits and business with most voters, whether on the left or right, they would have far more nuanced views about business and might recant their stupid one-line answers when challenged.

voting republican is no different than voting dem. in fact a case could be made that it is worse for our finances. because rep see defense spending as sacrosanct (indeed they want to raise it even more). and there is no way you are going to get any consensus to cut non defense spending as much as you need to in order to make any progress. I don't think you could even get there without taking on defense spending.

ryan's plan was a great piece of PR designed to get him on the map of the intelligentsia. however, it's a non starter.

Peter Schiff might (or might not  ;)) find it amusing that The Pledge Of Allegiance was written by a Christian socialist:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_socialism

Christian socialists identify the cause of inequality to be associated with the greed that they associate with capitalism.

Interesting about the views of the Christian Socialists.  It takes a certain amount of discernment to understand that responsible capitalism creates so much wealth that all benefit greatly.

One minor quibble with the wiki account: I think the words, "under God", were added mainly on the initiative of a US Congressman, not Eisenhower.  Very few Congressmen would vote against the change in wording.  That was unfortunate as belief in God was certainly at odds with the views of some citizens.
