And he also said that he personally hasn't bought GM. It was done through Todd Combs or Ted Weschler,... Buffett wasn't specific and only said that he is not looking at GM.

Also he mentioned for a moment that he would have loved to put $10 billion into BofA.

Brian Moynihan is doing all the right steps he said.

Also about Europe he said:

The system that they put in place had a fundamental fatal flaw... It can’t survive with the present rules. That’s what they’re learning. The question is, can 17 countries get together in a way to essentially re-do something. It’s kind of hard to patch something with so many people consulting on the patch.

Here's the part of the interview:

fyi, Buffett on Bloomberg TV with Betty Liu on for 2 hours beginning now from Sun Valley ... 8.00am to 10.am EDT

I missed this... damn job haha.

Anybody know if there's a relay of this later tonight? OR online?

I definitely wanna hear everything he said about JPM.

Tells Betty that he personally owns a million shares of JPM and that he totally trusts Dimon. Again says that JPM has the BEST shareholder letter.

Says he never talked to BAC's Moynihan "before in his life" before his warrant deal last year...

It sure is! I concur, Dimon is a great guy and this London CIO loss is being blown way out of proportion by the media... as expected.

Grenville, sounded like 'biography of a bank' to me: http://www.amazon.com/The-Story-Bank-America-Biography/dp/1587981459

Petec, that's it! Thank you so much. I kept re-listening to that bit to figure out what came before the "bank" when he said the name. The book was written in 1954 so it lines up with Buffett's comment of reading it in his mid 20's.

Any idea what the name of the book is that Warren refers to reading when he was 20. It helped him understand the breadth of Bank of America. I couldn't catch the full title.

http://www.bloomberg.com/video/buffett-no-question-jamie-dimon-tells-the-truth-s7jGOsZ0TI6p_VSBkgtDKg.html

It's between the 4 & 5 minute mark.

As I recall he made the following observation,

Bank of America is a great bank. The main asset is funnily enough its main liability, which is its deposit base. That is the main strength of BofA. It has immense reach across the nation and he has always thought it had a great franchise since reading a book on it when he was in his 20's. I don't recall him making a main point about the book; just enforcing the point that he thought it was a great franchise for a long time.

Also, he was asked whether he bought because of Brian or the quality of the business and he said both. Brian is doing all the things you would want him to do. There was a rumour that he approached BofA in June 11, but was turned down; he denied it as simply not true. Lastly he said he regrets not doing 10Bn of preferreds.

This is from memory, so don't take it for the gospel truth.

This was great, thanks!

With all the noise the media's making about JPM, it's always great to hear what Mr. Buffett has to say about the company and Dimon (great guy indeed... definitely very "candid" as Mr. Buffett puts it).

The BofA book he mentioned was Biography of a Bank. Out of print it seems and a bit expensive. You can read some of it on google books, I could only read 50 or so pages before I had no more free previews. Mostly about the Bank of Italy (a predecessor of the current behemoth) and its founder. Wish I could read the whole thing.

Strange enough, I got the book for 6 dollars with shipping. The second link below however turns up another set of (higher) prices.

Thanks for the link Matt ... and if you could tell us what you think of the book...

First time I've watched Bloomberg TV, these guys talk like they're describing a terror attack on an ice cream booth which is happening right now in some wall... weird stuff.

Haven't seen Buffett in about a year now, he sure looks much older, bummer. Something press the stop button!
