From a previous thread, would be interesting to know what everyone likes to do or is interested when they are not trying to make (or not lose) $.

Me, where do I start?

I have a bad case of ADD, doesnt allow me to stay in one spot for very long both literally and figuratively.

I am more into hockey than Golf (I started my own hockey league).  I do other things to keep me busy but investing pays the bills for me.

I live in Southern Ontario.

hmmm... what was I just thinking about - damn ADD!!!!!!

;)

Hmmm, what else do I do besides investing:

- I work for Quantum Advisory Partners as a consultant and do contract work...pays the bills while the funds grow.

- As you know, I really enjoy running The Corner of Berkshire & Fairfax Message Board.

- I like to watch hockey...I'm a die-hard Canucks fan!  I don't miss a single game.  I'm a big tennis fan as well.

- I like to play floor hockey...a bunch of us rent a gym and play every Tuesday night from the middle of September to the end of April.

- I like cooking...what they call "food porn" these days...I enjoy watching cooking shows on the weekend and then making something on the spur.

- Believe it or not, one of my favourite things to do every weekend is grocery shopping.  I try to get as many deals as possible...value investing affects every aspect of my life.  I dig through the flyers and find the best prices.  It's been a habit ever since my Dad died and I started doing all the grocery shopping for the family 20 years ago!

- I love to travel and see new places.

- Family dinners...we throw big family dinners with all of the cousins, nieces & nephews, etc...love it!

But hands down, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that I enjoy more than pouring through 10-Q's and 10-K's looking for investments.  My whole life and ego are intricately tied to Corner Market Capital and the MPIC Funds.  Cheers!

I like you guys, but Hockey just isnt a real sport below the Mason–Dixon line.

I'm a nut when it comes to my Canucks and I understand you can't relate.  I'm also a Peyton Manning fan and don't miss any of the Colts games either.

I use to be a huge Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant fan, but their respective infidelities kind of peeved me.  Nonetheless, I would like nothing better than to see Tiger win Barclays and keep Mickelson from being #1, and as far as I'm concerned LeBron is going to have to get through Boston, just to end up losing to Kobe and the Lakers anyway!  Cheers!

Guest Bronco

Myth...be careful.  The capitals are right near your mason dixon and they are the most dangerous team I've seen since the forsberg Colorado team.

Maybe not the best d but scary, scary on offense.

Can't wait for the season and a chance for Flyer redemption.

First my name is Seth and I live in Southwest Michigan along the shores of lake Michigan.

My main occupation is as a facilitative business consultant or business coach. I enjoy investing but I enjoy working with small business owners to develop their businesses even more.

My main area of investing has historically been nanocap companies. Ones where I can develop a relationship with the management and really keep my finger on the pulse of the business.

Interests involve most anything outside, this includes Running (preferably along the beach) biking, walking and other activities.

I have had a livelong love of reading ever since my dad read to me as a 5 year old. I read everything from business, novels, religious, economics, psychology, personal development and the list goes on and on. This last month I read all four of Malcom Gladwells books, Great reads and they really make you think.

I happen to be married to the most Beautiful women I have ever seen and we have 2 young children ages 2 and 3 months. I decided to add some life to this thread by posting some pictures of my wife and kids.

Read, read, read.  Sometimes write.  I've been hyperlexic  :) since I was a small child.  Also run, bike, swim. Spend lots of time with family and friends, but often miss some of the interaction because there is usually a book at hand.  I study interesting subjects, including doing some original scientific research.

We help support and spend time with many Christian missionary organizations that spread the good news to people about how much God loves them and help meet needs such as medical care in isolated places in poor countries. Sometimes, we go on these medical mission trips.  They call me "the sterilizer" because I sterilize the medical and dental instruments. My wife and I have written books on prescription drugs, so we organize and run the pharmacy on these trips.

In my day job, I'm a book publisher, but our wonderful staff does a great job and doesn't need much help.  They get a big chunk of our profits.  This helps keep them focused on the bottom line and gives me lots of free time.

Stick to your circle of competence Sanjeev, Lakers don't stand a chance against a healthy Lebron :)

If LeBron manages to win a championship, it will only be because he was riding the coat-tails of a healthy Dwayne Wade!  ;D  That's the one snag with LeBron's move to Miami...it's a lose-lose proposition.  If he loses, they'll say he chokes.  If he wins, they'll say it was because of Dwayne Wade and his leadership.

LeBron may get a championship, but the respect won't come until he wins one on his own.  Kobe's won two now without Shaq...yes he has Gasol and Odom, but they're not a Wade, LeBron, Garnett or Pierce.  Kobe really carried that team to two championships.  LeBron's going to have to really lead his team to get any respect.  Now about that Tiger Woods...looking pretty good this week!  Cheers!

Texas has more pro teams than any other state.

I think that has more to do with Texas (isnt everything bigger / more) then Hockey.

Its probably just too hot in Houston. Ice / Snow are both confusing and scary for us. Though it is snowing 1 day a year down here fairly consistently.

You have a beautiful family smallcap.

twacowfca, keep spreading the word and sterilizing. These are wonderful tasks.

Few decades of living and accumulating wealth is a tiny fraction of eternity. That's something I try to keep in mind from time to time (but should do it more frequently).

Cheers!

I'm a software developer during the day and started investing and learning about it just three years ago. So investing is actually my hobby. :) I'm also probably on the younger side than most posters here, at least that's what it feels like from the quality of discussion and general wisdom here -- I turned 30 recently.

Forgot to mention,

I also make (print) Tshirts/Jerseys on the side.

I started doing this when i started my league and it was fun so I do it for people I know etc etc.

Maybe one day I will propose a Corner of Berkshire & Fairfax Message Board Tshirts to the members through Sanjeev.

I do a Tshirt at the end of the year for all the players in the league and they love it (since you really cant wear a jersey around that much - but you can wear a tshirt everywhere 8))

I don't really have too many hobbies. In my free time, it's sad to say, but I like spending time reading about finance and other investments.

I haven't been much into getting/using coupons. Apparently if you spend enough time at it and get enough of a back catalog of coupons, your grocery bill can be cut by a significant margin.

Read read and then read some more. I devour information the internet is like encylopedias  for me which I used to read for fun as a child. Running keeps me sane other than that I cook ,love food and wine, my wife can not boil water but she is great at ordering pizza!!!! I also spend a huge amount of time looking at residential real estate vacation properties in Arizona and Maui. Which I think is a huge value opportunity by the way.

Small cap my bank account may be larger but your family is priceless you have acquired true wealth.

Yeah, I've been cutting coupons since I was 21!  It's like a game...no different than trying to find bargains in the stock market...I do the same thing for airmiles too...I look for mispricing in the coupon or airmiles, just like I do with investments.  It's a hell of a lot of fun...at least for me!   ;D

The big ones are when you can combine a manufacturer coupon with a store coupon and get the item for free, or airmiles deals where the item is almost free once you combine the value of the points.  I do this sort of thing for just about everything.  Recently, Telus offered a deal where if you switched to them, you would get a HD-PVR and a free laptop.  So we switched from Shaw to Telus, but they didn't tell us that we would need a second box for the other tv, and I got them to give it to me for free.  About $1500 worth of equipment for free, and my cable and internet bill is 10% cheaper each month.  For Buffett it's Bridge, for me it's bargain hunting at the Grocery store.  Cheers!

Sanjeev I have great memories of shopping in the Vancouver Safeway for some reason that I just can't explain. I am not a big shopper ( I like to find my deals online) but I remember shopping in Vancouver with fondness, maybe it was just the general feeling I had about being in  Vancouver.
