How Buffett/Munger Exercises

Now I finally understand how they've stayed in shape all these years...

Side note: Of all places, I found out their secret via Redbubble (ASX:RBL) which is a user-generated content marketplace with a wide range of print-on-demand items like home decor, clothing, and all kinds of accessories. It happens to be down -80% in recent months like many other tech names but is actually cheap on an absolute basis of ~1/3 of GMV. Fascinating business going through major long-term operational improvements after the new CEO came in, but market has been mostly focused on short-term comparisons with peak-COVID sales (which they benefited from over $30m of mask sales.) This is not a stock write-up but it seems like the long-tail of niche interests (like the COBF msg board community here) is a large addressable market that most retailers / e-commerce players have neglected.

Many people do not realize that Warren exercises almost every day.  He has a treadmill and a personal trainer.  Warren listened to his doctors (eventually) when told that he needed to exercise if he wanted to keep doing what he loves.  Staying in the game for longer is more important to Warren than avoiding exercise.

Here is an excerpt from a book, but Warren has mentioned the training in several interviews.  I believe he mentioned it in Charlie Rose's recent comeback interview as well.

Yes, he's said before that he does 45 minutes to 1 hour of treadmill walking every day...usually after a couple of cheeseburgers and Cokes!  🙂

Charlie only exercises his brain.

Both are happy with life and what they get to do...that's probably the biggest secret!

Joe Segal, a well-known investor and real estate developer here in Vancouver...he worked till the day he died at 96 last week...was one of the happiest people you'd ever meet, a philanthropist and loved his work.

Jim Pattison, another well known billionaire investor in Vancouver who is buddies with Buffett, is also 93 years old and works every day.  Healthy as a horse and again, the happiest guy you'll ever meet.

Working and doing what you love works almost as well as nutrition and daily exercise!  This in turn makes me happy, because a couple of my friends, Prem Watsa and Francis Chou, love what they are doing and it's nice to know they'll be around another 25-30 years!

Cheers!

I am genuinely curious if there’s even been studies about which is worse for you, drinking 2 alcoholic beverages a day, or 2 Coca Colas?

Why choose when you can combine the two - it’s called Cuba Libre.

From 2020:

"But he has recently been pretty religious about spending 25 minutes a day on a treadmill, something he does while watching the evening news.

“All you guys who used up your muscles and joints when you were young, I carefully put mine away in a box when I was 6 to save them for old age, and I only pulled them out a few years ago,” he said. “They’ve never been used.”

I think the health benefit of half an hour fast walking or jogging is pretty good.

And you can buy it soon premixed in a can! https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/13/jack-and-coke-in-a-can-coca-cola-and-brown-forman-team-up-for-new-drink.html

Seriously, I don't have any doubts that alcohol is way worse for your health than sugar, alcohol is a known carcinogen.

I'd say it is a toss up, both are toxins. I have greatly cut down, but unfortunately I still indulge in both.

Fructose is much worse than glucose. Glucose can go directly into your bloodstream and into your cells for fuel. Fructose has to be processed in your liver, which is not good. It will eventually cause nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. So both fructose and alcohol can destroy your liver.

Even with blood glucose in the normal range, blood glucose levels on the high end of that normal range have been linked to brain shrinkage, reduced neuroplasticity and cognitive impairment

Your five liters of blood contain one teaspoon of sugar. A 12-ounce coke contains 12 teaspoons of sugar, which is quickly dumped into your bloodstream! Your pancreas goes nuts to handle this and why eventually you will get type 2 and type 3 diabetes.
