Neat find in a "Little Free Library", "Security Analysis" 1934 ed.

Was driving down Quebec St in Toronto today and passed a "Little Free Library" I hadn't seen before (more on LFL here: https://littlefreelibrary.org/) and on a hunch I pulled the car over to check it out.

In it I found a 1934 first edition of Graham and Dodd's "Securities Analysis". A library copy that used to be in Dalhousie University.

Nice, a 1st/1st.

No recent comp sales on eBay but there are a few listed (mostly 1st later printings).

I'd keep it.

As an fyi on value, that is easily worth thousands of dollars. The closest comp I could quickly find (the red first/first edition, also ex-library) https://www.biblio.com/book/security-analysis-principles-technique-graham-benjamin/d/951415339

Is listed for $9k USD. I suspect that price to be slightly high, as condition matters a great deal for these sorts of things. I'd guess yours is worth ~$5k USD.

That $1500 isn't a first printing. That matters quite a bit.

Oh I didn't notice that, or that mine was a 1st/1st

No problem. You can see the difference in this listing here: https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=18075326174&searchurl=an%3Dbenjamin%2Bgraham%26fe%3Don%26sortby%3D17%26tn%3Dsecurity%2Banalysis#&gid=undefined&pid=4

Where under the first edition it lists the printing. Yours doesn't,  therefore imo it's a 1st/1st.

I'd be willing to pay you $1500 USD for it - it's definitely worth more than that. You shouldnt take me up on the offer :)

Efficient Market Theory evangelists in tears, asset worth thousands of dollars picked up on the side of the road for free.

May I suggest that you donate that money back to the library if you ever sell it, given that they are a non-profit.

Here is a 1st/1st, also was a library book. Listed for $9k. https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=16758996144&searchurl=an%3DBENJAMIN%2BGRAHAM%26kn%3Dsecurity%2Banalysis%26sortby%3D1&cm_sp=snippet-_-srp1-_-title8
