Every presentation should have a slide like this, decomposing revenues by source into expenses and profits.

Any of you is chairman of the Association of Investor Relations Slidedeck Makers? Please make it so.

I was familiar with this in the context of energy flows thanks to the classic chart from LLNL:

(Someone on Twitter pointed out to me that these are called Sankey Diagrams, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sankey_diagram)

Having fun with your copywriting skills, eh?

I knew you'd get the reference. But I still mean every word...

What is going on with you two?

Scott had a few thread titles designed to get people to click through recently, and so I playfully wrote this:

When I used a similar approach for this thread, he wrote the same thing to me.

  • 2 months later...

So back when I first created this thread, I reached out to RocketFinancial.com to show them the sankey charts and suggest that they might be a good addition to their service, and they apparently also liked them enough because over the next couple months they actually built the feature. You can see an example here:

There's a menu to see it by geography, or by product or business. F.ex.:

I've suggested to them that they could put percentage numbers on each branch of the sankey charts, I think that would make things easier to see at a glance.

I like www.RocketFinancial.com in general. They have 20-year data on a lot of things. Check them out if you haven't already.

I'll raise you with:

(I'm sure there's a strange business that has almost 100% FCF margin somewhere.. PSD.to in Canada used to have 70% FCF margins)
