Koch seems like a long term oriented business that is engineering and improvement focused.  The CEO seems very thoughtful.

Any thoughts how Koch has been so successful over the last 40-50yrs?

This will probably help answer a lot of questions.  I just started reading it yesterday.  Although they live in the midwest like WEB, that is where the similarity ends. They are hands-on operators laser focused on customer value, who impose their discipline on newly acquired companies.  So far it has worked remarkably well.  Building on a $21mm business they inherited from their father in the early sixties, the Koch brothers have grown it to the second largest privately owned business in the USA worth appx. $100 billion in 2014.  Very impressive individuals.

I particularly liked this philosophy, it would be great if more businesses encouraged their employees to think like this.

 

The virtues of this kind of market-based management, or MBM, come up at several Koch locations. MBM is a business creed that emphasizes individual performance, in which each employee is empowered to think like an entrepreneur rather than a cog. The Koch website encourages workers to come up with their own solutions to problems "rather than waiting for orders from higher-ups."
