  1. Also just saw & loved "Belfast" - a warm, funny & moving film of his family and childhood during The Troubles. Ken B's young self Jude Hill, Judy Dench, facially charged Ciaran Hinds, Jamie Dornan & wife...all terrific actors. Dissed b/c of its use of black & white cinematography. Strange - b&w was (my opinion) evocative and sensible in the portrayal of one person's remembrance of things past.
  2. Fantastic photos of the sun, shore and family! Thank you for sharing. Off to London & Amsterdam. Drinks with Chuck & Camilla after polo Saturday.
  3. I also enjoyed his whacky but interesting thoughts - 14 months no new posts. His web site has also been inactive for some time.
  4. Late last week added more Bam, Brk.b and Onex.
  5. Lest we forget, the recent position taken in Markel is interesting. Mirrors last month's swallowing up of Alleghany - strikingly similar characteristics with long time family ownership/involvement of the Kirbys...now the Markels and Alan Kirshner. Toss in Tom Gayner for added appeal.
  6. Yes, to echo Spek's compliment...Michael Clark's analysis on Sky News is well worth seeking out. You can access Sky for free on Pluto (available through streaming platforms and devices like YouTube TV or Roku). Plus, Sky's reporters on site are very good and well informed. They lack/avoid the rapid fire pace of US networks which allot 30-45 seconds to a "live" report alongside superficial analyses by generalists (pun intended).
  7. Shetland and Vera are, agreed, terrific. Same author (Ann Cleeves) wrote both and her books are as interesting as the tv series are. Vienna Blood Season 2 just began on PBS - previously highly rec'd by Spek. For those interested in foreign crime, I enjoyed Henrik Menkill's "Wallender" series that starred Kenneth Branagh as the morose and disaffected Swedish detective. The original Swedish version was a mess. Branagh is far better in the title role and Menkill's books and tv story lines are captivating. "Young Wallender" as a prequel on Netflix is a must miss. I am watching and really like Netflix' Dutch crime series "Undercover" starring Frank Laemers as Ferry, a gangster living in a trailer park along with an undercover police team (Tom Waes) ingratiating themselves - both characters are intense, eyes on the prize, thinking about the game all the time. Season 3 began this week. One man is from the bad, the other from the good - both are skilled at what they are doing & trying to achieve. French "Spiral" is also one of the best foriegn tv crime series - superb acting, gritty plotting - alongside UK's "Line of Duty." If you subscribe to MHZ channel or Amazon Prime, "A French Village" is worth seeking out. Its set on certain days in the same, well duh, French village during WWII and features many actors who appear in "Spiral". Lest we forget...new season of "Ozark" starts this Friday!
  8. I also well remember him and the mention in New Money Masters. I was a SC shareholder until several years after his passing when the closed end fund drifted & I sold out. As I recall, he died in a biking accident - far too early in a short lived successful life.
