How is what I own in my portfolio related to whether or not Berkshire Hathaway stock is cheap or fairly valued? Especially if those securities could not reasonably be purchased by Berkshire in volumes enough to move the needle on their portfolio? If I want to share random tickers I hold or investment ideas, I will share them in their own threads....this thread isn't really designed to get feedback or criticism about investments unrelated to BRK. Oh please share. Is that not why we are all here?

I don't think is is uncommon practice for big city redevelopments. Thats the way it happens across the globe. -

I've jumped on the band wagon and taken a position. The valuation is so low that it should only take a bit of good news for the stock to go higher. If they stop buying shit we should be fine. I'm not keen on their forward strategy with junior miners. Sounds like it would be quite easy to buy some worthless assets. Fingers crossed Parq doesn't catch fire. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, But are people mining on an industrial scale forced sellers? If I own a warehouse full of rigs mining bitcoin I have to sell a certain amount of BTC every month to cover my overheads. As the price falls I and other miners have to sell more. Surely this is a significant contribution to the feedback loop?

I'm pretty ignorant and don't trade options myself. What if there is a health issue with Warren or Charlie around the time of expiration and the equity is way down? Is this a problem or are you just trading these on a shorter time frame?

I saw Einhorn is a heavy seller of aercap too. I wonder if they have seen oil rise as an increase in risk.

Bought Naspers, I think the discount is enough margin of safety, Tencent could be overvalued. I'm not smart enough to value Tencent but i'm happy to get everything else for free. I think there is value in the other holdings will be realised later. Hoping management get increasingly desperate to demonstrate the value and follow through spinning off other units.

beating the market - not what it used to be

Not all returns are made equal. If you return 10% using a low risk method its far more valuable than 10% of high risk. Value investing is a way of mitigating risk. If I load up on Calls on FANG stocks I think I'm a genius till I blow up. Meanwhile the value investor chugs along making reasonable gains until their cumulative return overtakes those with higher risk. -
Best Companies in China are Cheaper than the US

I watched the latest video on Pabrai's blog where he talks to Chinese students about his investment in Moutai. He called Guy Spier to tell him about the investment, Guy wouldn't invest a meaningful amount into the company for fear of fraud. That being said, looks like They are doing well. https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/600519:CH -
Ditto.

Focusing on #1 or #2 businesses in the field is actually a pretty dumb idea. It bases capital allocation on the chase of the grandiose instead of valuation. That in turn motivates management to build a stable of really pretty businesses at the expense of shareholder value. I guess that policy has served it's purpose at GE. Focusing on the core businesses and monetising the rest worked really well for GD and its shareholders. I was hoping Flannery would do this but from his letter it sounds like hes not going to do anything radical. Maybe BRK could take over and unlock by selling off some divisions.

Thought I would share for those who haven't seen it. https://sumzero.com/sp/TopStocks2018

Not going to help with the valuation here but... I think Mohnish has identified that KRBL must have a significant moat. Maybe its the economies of scale when storing/aging the rice or that is does its own seed distribution... maybe its something else. Looks like KRBL has managed to maintain its great margins and premium export price in comparison to its competitors. They are the largest producer domestically with an increasing market share of the oligopoly. From some quick google searches it looks like the market for basmati rice is growing internationally with India being the major producer. I think Mohnish would like the idea of selling rice in India, especially when KRBL seems so dominant in the market.

I notice that Guy Spier (http://www.dataroma.com/m/holdings.php?m=aq) has picked up some Teekay Offshore Partners. I suspect this could be a Pabrai pick shared with Guy which Mohnish hasn't had to file for. He mentioned finding a bargain in the shipping industry in one of his lectures on his blog.

http://www.hellenicshippingnews.com/ Pretty good free resource for shipping. Shipping/tanker Rates, ship building reports, ship broker reports. One of the few sites I found that gives you detailed information for free. Recently used it to value Gener8 Maritime's tanker fleet and made a quick buck when euronav announced a merger.
