iPhone 11 Updated to iOS 16 and Now Refuses to Charge
DooDiligence replied to DooDiligence's topic in General Discussion
Good suggestion but no, unfortunately I don't have one. I think I'm going to just go phone-less for a while. Started researching the Pixel and Samsung offerings. If Apple can't resolve this, I will most definitely not replace with another iPhone. -
I've tried multiple OEM cables (both USB A and C), and cubes (5w and 20w), and also tried connecting to my MacBook Pro M1. Nothing. No lights, no sounds, nothing. I feel like Steve Jobs would've had someone pilloried for this. Contacted support and escalated to a complaint. Also sent feedback. I expect to hear back from them some time after the polar ice caps melt. I've been without a phone for a week now and it's kind of liberating. It hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. There have been a handful of occasions where I was inconvenienced but whatever. My iPad Pro is now my phone.

Blessed are the cheesemakers. -
I remember these from when I was a kid and just randomly came across this fun little story. The business was originally started as a place to demonstrate the invention of the flame broiler, but the restaurant itself proved a success and they started rolling them out. Burger Chef apparently developed a lot of other fast food concepts which are still in wide spread use today. The major lesson involves the perils of overly fast expansion. https://www.mashed.com/238779/the-untold-truth-of-burger-chef/

IMO, Joseph Campbell is / was one of the most eloquent speakers on the subject of God. Power of Myth | Ep. 1: 'The Hero’s Adventure' - There are 6 episodes and they're roughly an hour each. -

"The common fallacies are usefully divided into three categories: Fallacies of Relevance, Fallacies of Unacceptable Premises, and Formal Fallacies. Many of these fallacies have Latin names, perhaps because medieval philosophers were particularly interested in informal logic. You don’t need to know the Latin names: what’s important is being able to recognize the fallacies." https://www.futurelearn.com/info/courses/logical-and-critical-thinking/0/steps/9131 The straw man made an appearance before this discussion got re-threaded. He is one of my least favorite characters. -
My last 6 month policy with GEICO was $569 and I can't remember how much the increase for renewal was but it was enough to prompt me to investigate alternatives. My new Progressive policy is $446 for exactly the same coverage. All GEICO had to do was bump it a few bucks and I never would've looked elsewhere. I'm a safe driver and scored a 98 using GEICO's DriveEasy monitoring program. This doesn't bode well.

Sounds like the definition of modern governing and legislation.

Great summation and I totally agree. Nothings missing for anyone who's been following the businesses. WEB is old. Writing one of these reports demands a lot of time. I'm amazed he continues to do it with such originality.

I was curious as to whether the old guy repurposes material from previous years so I submitted the latest letter to TurnItIn. He gets an A. I always shoot for less than 10% similarity on essays too. Mine keep getting longer though.

What are you listening to ? (Music thread)

The amazing thing about Zappa and the Mothers is that everything you hear is played exactly as written. No variation or improv (playing through normal mistakes, of course). He wrote orchestral pieces with pencil and paper. -
This is the way. It's never been easier to do. I use Apple Notes for classwork, investments, home (I documented my entire sprinkler system in Notes, with photos), coins, music, tech guides and more. Making your own quick references teaches you how to do stuff.

Same. I'm not a wiggle watcher but if this follows recent trends I'll be happy to make it a 3% position as it drops. I read the entire Citi thread over the past week. Thanks to all the contributors. Misery loves company.

My next 6 month policy with GEICO went up about $150., which wouldn't be so bad but Progressive offered a policy that was $150 cheaper than GEICO before the increase, for virtually the same coverage limits. GEICO deductible was $500 and Progressive is $750. Increasing the GEICO deductible to $1000 provided a laughably small decrease. I'm now a Progressive customer. I had used the GEICO app and enrolled in the DriveEasy program with a score of 98 out of 100 (no hard braking, good cornering and minimal distracted driving). I'm now signed up with Progressive's Snapshot app based driver monitoring program. I'll have to wait a week or so to see how the app presents data. This does not bode well for GEICO in the near term. Could be bad for Progressive if they're underpricing.

Wrong answers only. I didn't want to muck up the Berkshire category (again), so here it goes. -
My big takeaway is don't watch CNBC, ever. Quality television finance bros died with Paul Kangas and Louis Rukeyser.

Buffett/Berkshire - general news

Marmon runs a pretty wide range of businesses that could get unwieldy with a single management team calling the shots. Reading through the website indicates that they run a decentralized management system with autonomous teams for the various business segments. Kind of like a Berkshire within a Berkshire. True or false? -

I've been largely avoiding the news. I see things haven't changed much.
