Why is this long discussion persisting on the Berkshire General News thread? Pls move this to another thread? Cheers.
I know, right? I made a thread specifically for this.

Steve Jobs was an asshole and I made money off Apple...
I dunno about asshole avoidance - I've known small business owners who were quite successful and also assholes
but he didn't create a culture of assholes. I made $$$ too.

Anybody ever work for, or invest alongside an asshole (maybe even been an asshole yourself)?
I've been an asshole so often it's embarrassing (the internet never forgets).
Brent Beshore takes us on a compelling journey through assholery.
I know nothing about his investment track record.
People are saying asshole avoidance is key.

AFL has been a beautiful business. Started out selling supplemental cancer insurance and got a boost when they introduced policies to people who'd had an atomic bomb dropped on them (kind of a no brainer). Recently bought Argus Dental & Vision and is partnered with Trupanion. Back to the office is giving them more face to face sales opportunities. Shows strong cannibalistic tendencies. I never should've sold. FCF declining. Thanks for the reminder.

Dude just strolls out and wails on Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm learning this song now and it's the most complicated piece I've ever played. If I play it reeeally slow I can get the octave jumps at the top with my LH 2 and RH 5 fingers (if you know, you know). Never mind trying to sing it just yet. FM is a legend.

For the benefit of at least one of the newer posters on this board who seems to think he knows everything, I would just say this: @gfp is one of the best posters with deep knowledge of the companies he comments on. I truly respect, enjoy and look forward to reading his posts and I always learn something new from him. There are very few posters on this board board I feel this way & @gfp is one of the best.
Seconded. He's been a very gracious poster and responder. I've learned a lot.

I never really understood the rationale for the railroad purchase. The hailing of it as a high capital requirement business as if that was a huge positive. Now years later bemoaning that high capital requirement. I mean the higher that requirement, the higher the risk of a low ROE/ROIC no? I guess he did mention that he got it for a good price. Has anyone done an analysis of that part of the business since purchase? I wonder if he'd have made better by just buying back shares?
WRT BNSF, it sounds to me like poor mouthing from Omaha, and as to BHE, hell only a few months ago we were all hailing the dramatic reinvestment opportunities for this business and suddenly it's all gone? BRK specializes in global risk management. I don't buy it, but I will hold through it.
He did sound sad though, but not about the businesses.
They should install a stripper pole / dunking booth in the office.
Nothing like a good wet t-shirt contest to liven up a room.

Well he can buy Nintendo any time he wants and it won’t show up on a 13-F.
That'll save me a pair of underwear.

I'd crap my pants if it was Nintendo.

Apple's had a year now to learn what I like (jazzy, funky, lofi with stabs of Les Claypool) but it still sends questionable recommendations. I've never tried Spotify but might give it a whirl.
It’s easy to hear how hip-hop descended from jazz: Not only are both rooted in Black expression, but both depend on that alchemical confluence of rhythm and mood we call flow. So when we say “jazz” here, it isn’t jazz in the traditional sense but jazz as filtered through hip-hop pioneers like Q-Tip, Madlib, and J Dilla before being passed down to a whole new generation of beatmakers whose music—low-key, chilled-out, intricate but subtly so—tweaks the sound while keeping tradition intact. Our editors update picks here regularly, so if you hear something you like, add it to your library (IOW, get off your bum and curate some mix tapes bc we're kinda meh at it).

I'd rather hear "guidance" on operational matters and leave the numbers projections off.
"We're gonna do this, that and the other thing. Tune in to the next five or ten 10K's to find out how it all worked out financially."

But, Abel might be a Tim Cook where he keeps the operations going. If someone needs a big deal, will he be the one they call? It might be Jamie Dimon. Maybe, Tom Gayner?
I'm not sure if the AGM will be less popular... and people might gravitate toward Markel's meeting.. Or an Ackman meeting.. or Fairfax for all I know.

Yoga and calisthenics (regularly), similar results but better for the head. Get's you on a dance floor too (which has other benefits).
