  1. Diworsifying from quality with small positions in CABO, CHTR, EC, PBR-A, and some preferred shares that are paying big dividends, unless the companies go bankrupt as some speculate.
  2. South Korea doesn't have it's own thread, so posting it in the China thread:
  3. LOL: IMO, China has hit the "communist plateau"; copying technology only gets you so far, after that culture takes over. China's decline will only increase going forward as they continue meddling with citizens and private businesses and the effect from the CCP "one child policy" instated in the 70s and 80s increases, malinvestments increasing the decline even more. Most of the world's innovation still seems to come from the US.
  4. Coal demand at record levels even after moving factories from the US and EU: https://www.iea.org/news/global-coal-demand-set-to-remain-at-record-levels-in-2023 Asia: EU: Maybe it's not too late to invest in coal and BTU. I wish I had bought BTU at 0.85 USD, now trades at 24.72 USD and P/E ~5:
  5. Did they mention the car business? https://www.blackberry.com/us/en/company/newsroom/press-releases/2023/blackberry-software-is-now-embedded-in-over-235-million-vehicles
  6. This article needs to be translated: Should be: https://www.iea.org/reports/oil-2020
  7. Weekly news from the EU. Everything is going as planned by the central committee, more sustainability and regulation: https://www.reuters.com/technology/microsofts-deal-with-mistral-ai-faces-eu-scrutiny-2024-02-27/ https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/eu-parliament-backs-contested-biodiversity-bill/ar-BB1iYkh9 https://www.reuters.com/business/basf-dials-up-cost-cuts-germany-flags-earnings-rebound-2024-02-23/
  8. https://www.klarna.com/international/press/klarna-ai-assistant-handles-two-thirds-of-customer-service-chats-in-its-first-month/ Sounds like shareholders will love ChatGPT, employees, not so much. Google and others could probably replace 80% of their staff with ChatGPT and nobody would notice. Elon Musk fired 80% of Twitter's employees and it lead to a huge productivity boost for the company.
  9. The Iron Claw was great, even though wrestling can be cringey.

  11. Things have changed since 2008: the Chinese stock market P/E is no longer over 62. Here's an interview with Peter Thiel from Nov, 2022: https://www.hoover.org/research/peter-thiel-leader-rebel-alliance
  12. Long China vs long ”China”:
  13. Here's an article I read yesterday by Peter Thiel from 2008: The Optimistic Thought Experiment: In the long run, there are no good bets against globalization https://www.hoover.org/research/optimistic-thought-experiment He coherently rambles — on a much higher level than both Putin and certainly Paycom's CEO — about philosophy, history, and globalization. He was correct about China and still is IMO: The starting valuation of ”China” was similar to the ”Magnificent 7”. There is no longer a bubble in China but ”the internal contradictions will persist” and the ventures are still ”controlled by card-carrying members of the CCP”: Thiel also mentions Berkshire Hathaway and that Warren was long technology and globalization already in 2007 (but not China?): I guess I understand the history and forces behind globalization better after reading Peter Thiel's ramblings:
  14. Officially at least, there are good intentions behind both ideas. However, Goodhart's Law and a lot of other human biases and prejudices apply: Yes, capitalism is inherently unequal and could definitely lead to revolution.
  15. Ackman continues his blitzkrieg on Twitter. This time Ackman is angry at the Washington Post: The Washington Post journalist didn't call him a nazi but mentioned his ”blitzkriegs of loud shareholder letters”. Ackman on DEI: Ackman on ESG: IMO, ESG and DEI are noble causes, and Goodhart's Law apply to both.
  16. The CCP is clearly not interested in sharing common profits with foreign investors. From now on, I will definitely assume 99% of profits from BABA and other Chinese utilities will not reach foreign investors until it's been proven otherwise; I have no interest in giving my money to the CCP. Sometimes greed get's the better of me though. BABA no more, LOL.
  17. Chinese tech stocks. All out again. No point in owning Chinese utilities.
  18. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-stocks-languish-despite-renewed-015027580.html The CCP no longer want to see any further declines.
  19. Adding echoes of BTI by bying more BTI with the BTI dividend.
  20. Here's an article with pretty much the opposite arguments: https://citationneeded.news/effective-obfuscation/ I think she's trying to say that profits should be shared and that there shouldn't be unlimited growth or progress.
  21. This is the first time I heard about: Look at the results of Germany's ”environment justice for all”. WW3 and environmental disaster, ok, maybe not WW3, LOL.
