If Biden had done nothing , I think China probably would have already started a war with Taiwan now.

yeah, just like rare earth: China export most of it. But it’s not rare at all. America has a lot too. It’s everywhere. but it’s not profitable to mine them in America and so all mines shut down over the years.

that’s also why I think EWBC, the Chinese bank Li Lu invested is interesting. It appears , though I am not sure, they are taking deposits from Chinese who want to transfer their USD to America and use them to invest in US stocks. According to the CEO, he was met by ZhuRongJi when he visited America and had lunch with a group of American CEOs( he was the only Asian CEO). I trust Li Lu must have some insights with this bank

The economy in China is so bad, but political climate is becoming tighter, more policy regulating everything, and more war planes flying around Taiwan. Confidence on the country is none, capital is gushing out of China, and CCP is scared and policing everything even more now. I now feel this time it’s different. Xi is not prioritizing economy. He’s increasing his grips and he is going to prioritize his objectives first. I doubt they have the ability to start war now but I think he would want to if he can. What matters is without confidence, economy is not going to get back for next few years.

too much pain. cut loss. And increasingly, I feel the current political climate in china is long term regime change. politic trumps economy. Will be like this for years.

my point is they all looks, talk the same on TV -- except some are exceptional (like Buffett, Iger, Bezo etc.. who has a strong energy when talking on TV). The others talk like old men especially these defense ceos.
-
watching on YouTube the CNBC interviews with the CEOs with these defense companies -- all old white men..

Buying quality stocks at a bargain price, in a diversified portfolio, makes investing such a happy endeavor of life. bring so much pleasure. Really hate my baba now!

if a war starts, within a month those soldiers will turn back to Beijing. Too corrupted, too naive

Thanks Spek. I already crystalized the tax losses, just hesitating if I shall keep rolling the benefit forward or use it now by selling some brk. I bought some other stocks recently which resulted in I have a margin balance. I could sell some brk to raise cash, but I really hate doing that. Peter Lynch said let your winners run!. maybe I shall just sell more of my lossers like the baba!

Questions for the board: I have some realized long term loss. I have the following thoughts, wonder if people think is correct: 1. Since it’s a tax benefit, it might be better to use it earlier by selling one of my other position with long term gains now, instead of keep waiting and rolling it forward? 2. when selling my other position with gain, is it better to sell those with lowest tax basis or highest tax basis, assuming I sell just enough to take advantage of the realized tax loss? I am thinking it might be better to sell the highest tax basis one because that gives me the most optionality after sale? Basically, I have realized some of my baba loss and now I am thinking if I shall sell some of my Berkshire (less than 10%) to take advantage of the tax benefits now (and use the proceeds to take some other bets like RTX etc)

Yeah, the BOA analyst sounds like he’s very unhappy. He is asking in the call that there’s a culture problem at the engineering dept. I wonder what he knows. He did just downgraded RTX, calling it a value trap

Bought some RTX

I was re-reading Peter Lynch’s book last night. He said many of his good picks are slow growers trading at reasonable valuations. The slow growers compound over the years. 1. KVUE is a spin-off, 2. and is having some temporary negative news which I think made it oversold. Its earning won’t really be impacted much if at all. 3. Also usually for stocks that are added to SP500, it will have a permanent boost to its valuation— soon a lot of funds will start include it. 4. Nice brands of stables etc.. good business in general

Bought KVUE

When I invested in Rolls Royce a few years back, and lost money, it taught me a few things about airplane engines. Nowadays, they try so hard to make the engines carry so big a plane using the least oil, it’s a technological marvel. The temperature inside the engine is so hot that it will melt the blades in seconds if they didn’t have those holes on the blades. These problems is never going to just one, more will always come.
