  1. To be truthful any wealth tax is retarded as I already paid income tax on it and will be paying VAT when I spend it.
  2. Someone's gotta lose when someone wins. Also equalization takes away all stimulation for doing the best you can.
  3. Sounds like you should really consider switching countries. Paying 30% tax on a fictional 4% yield on your investments over ~21k euro sounds a lot better (instead of capital gains, dividend, tx taxes etc.). Of course you're not allowed to offset losses (4% per year positive result is assumed to be true). You can deduct foreign paid taxes such as dividend taxes to avoid fouble taxation.
  4. Hielko: Sealand isn't recognized by any state and battles have been fought.
  5. Okay. Where? I thought that you guys had the answers. Why are you asking a socialist who likes it the way it is? You've got at least five people here who agree with you. They are all probably pretty rich this being CoBF. Presumably you can find more rich and educated people who agree with you. Find some poor country that would sell you an island or something. I'll visit when you guys have that futuristic thing with robo dogs. You can even charge me admission (just don't call it a tax, no no). Many tried, no-one will sell even a desolate rock at an insane valuation if it means giving up sovereignty of that rock. War is the only way to start something outside of existing sovereignty it seems :(
  6. Okay. Where? http://i62.tinypic.com/2e5p8bn.jpg
  7. Libertarians (or anarcho-capitalists to be precise). I usually refer to myself as a libertarian or anarcho-capitalist, but I don't object to being called a liberal. Liberal, based on the latin "līber", basically means "free man". It is a perversion of language for the socialists to be using the term to describe themselves. Nowadays liberal is (oddly) reserved for socialists. Other than that I fully agree with you.
  8. Libertarians (or anarcho-capitalists to be precise).
  9. Can we at least start with "theft is wrong"? Probably not if we are discussing taxes. Involuntary tax is wrong? I've never in my life paid a tax voluntarily without the threat of violence hanging over my head. You give to charity, they take taxes. Indeed. This shows the value of paying taxes is lower than the price and therefore that there shouldn't be any taxes. If people want to do something jointly they'll join up and collect funds voluntarily. In a 100 years states will be way way smaller (if they exist at all).
  10. Can we at least start with "theft is wrong"? Probably not if we are discussing taxes. Involuntary tax is wrong?
  11. Yesterday I bought more NOV and initiated a position in CHK. Seems I'm lucky with timing for once ;)
  12. Interesting question, especially given the context of the original post. The author wrote this in Python. Python is an interpreted language and is viewed as much slower. If I were to write something I'd do it in Java or C#, but that's because I know both. I'm not sure which is actually faster, both have a layer of abstraction, the JVM and the .NET interpreter. But each of these languages is magnitudes faster than Python. Python is compilable. If you want something truly fast you wont use a language with a VM such as JVM or .Net. C or even assembly for parts of it is a good choice.
  13. It's basically centralization (governments) versus decentralization. Centralization is suboptimal and shoild therefore disappear altogether. If the US was run like in the 19th century I would probably move there. Right now it's one of the last countries I'd want to live. Hell my country of sociolists is preferrable. PS: I support the actions of the company you describe. The workers occupied the factory. You should be allowed to protect your property.
  14. They are only horrible to the small minority who actually contribute to the economy (instead of being parasitic on it). Majority decides aye?
  15. Number 13: greed is why a Libertarian society works. And people that dont act in their own self-interest? They'll mostly die out or end up at the bottom of society in a generation or two as this system actually rewards good behaviour (instead of being parasitic on it such as our current one).
  16. The only true premise is that people are inherently selfish and will act in their own best interest. That's it.
  17. That's a philosophical and possibly ethical position you hold. You may think that your position is universal, but it's not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism I'm saying it's not inherently right, neither logically nor ethically. You are saying it's inherently right (it holds for you so therefore it must hold for everyone). Who's imposing their viewpoint on others. Utilitarianism is stupid. I have very very often been the only person in a room with a certain conviction and the vast majority of the time I am right (in cases where this can be determined objectively). People disagreeing with me never invalidates my viewpoints (even if it's every single human being except me). Good arguments can. (also do you really believe most people have the ability to choose what is best for them? really?)
  18. Persuade others to adopt your laws and morality or create your own country. Calling it "legalized theft" is just your opinion. It doesn't make it a fact. Yes it does because it's true by definition. Asking me to convince others shows you do not understand. The fact that most people want something does not make it inherently right, neither logically nor ethically. And create my own country? I'd love to, many have tried but nation states don't except. Read what happened to the last person that tried: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/05/10/liberland-president-arrested-by-croatia-for-trespassing-in-no-man-land/ Beneign dictatorship is already far superior to democracy. I agree that you cannot go much lower than communism, and the socialism we have in Europe is also referred to as democracy (and terrible might I add).
  19. As for the current system: Taxes are not theft: they have been voted for democratically by the population in most cases. So the masses steal from the few. It's legalized theft. If you don't believe in democracy, well then nothing more to say. Well I guess you're going to be silent then as democracy is terrible, As long as we're talking about the democracy in which everyone, contributing or not, smart or stupid has an equal right to vote. In such a democracy leadership will never be competent and always a mix of incompetent and bought.
