  1. Always strive to improve your craft. Thanks for a great link of a show tonight giofranchi
  2. Thanks for the link. I like it when he says he is not very emotional regarding investing :D
  3. I was just thinking about this today and the magic-formula has worked really good on big companies lately except HPQ(I now from experience :D). My secrete sauce to the Magic formula is a second screen of guru ownership and to be safe bigger companies. I might be data-mining but this has worked quite good. One can go one steep further and reduce the stocks selected by only going by stocks mentioned here and the list is right more then 50% of the time at least of a winner :D Example Dell, msft, csco, hlf, aapl, and bby and so on. So if one finds a consensus of COBF, magic-formula and Guru ownership(10% or less above 52 week low) the likely hood of failure is greatly reduced in my opinion just my thoughts. Of curse I might just be totally wrong just typing some thoughts :D
  4. Well as a member and fellow cloner I am going to read this one :D Thanks for the heads up.
  5. JEast Thanks for posting your concerns and how you see the business. I hope you did not take my comment before to strong as I was sarcastic and do think highly of your comments as I am just a beginner and maybe I need to read Security Analysis again(remember reading it in Nairobi as I was dead set of not working in Africa) :D
  6. JEast Be prepared to be overrun by the owner operator shareholders I think we are entering a new paradigm shift and older folks will miss out 8)
  7. The Art of Profitability is something I am also reading but 2h in and not so interest in it but a good eye opener on different ways one become good at making profit.
  8. Liberty King of the Club is good but not exceptional. But its a good story and I did not read its per say i listened on my 12 h drive yesterday :D But very good at understanding how the exchanges work and puts another perspective on floor traders and stuff :D
  9. The funny thing is I read the whole King of the Club yesterday. Good book about the exchange's fights and faults.
  10. Strayer Education Inc http://klarmanite.com/write-ups/ http://www.gurufocus.com/news/226480/strayer-education-stra-a-bright-spot-in-a-dark-industry http://mevsemt.blogspot.com/2013/05/what-just-happened.html Michael Shearn on the Uses and Misuses of Investment Checklists Author of "The Investment Checklist" describes how investors can employ checklists to their advantage this guy owns and writes about this stocks in his book. and he mad a small pitche on this at MOI a 10 min video. He has been buying since 100 :D And I own 7% of my portfolio(does not mean much) with a 7% loss. If anyone is interested check out all the links and make your own decision. trying to spark some ideas and be helpful :D
  11. Cool nice job Ross812 going to be interesting how this develops.
  12. I would gladly help but the problem is I am a European investor so how does that affect the system. Are the trades reported to investors so they can copy them in his or her country?
  13. Kraven, I think your method is probably going to beat my concentrated portfolio composition. However, Like Munger said this year he is still learning and its so much more "fun" to invest in a few companies where you actually might admire the management. Not saying all my stocks are like that but around half at the moment. Plus I am to lazy to keep track of 100 positions :D
  14. My take is a starter position is 7% and can easily become 14%. Then I have like bond investments LRE, FFH 12% to 15%. And 9 Positions in total with cash being 1 at 20% and top 5 at 55%. That's my latest setup but I am sure over time this will change. To add is that before I started investing in stocks I read allot of Index investing. And taking a playbook of index-investing according to David Swensen anything below 5% does not have any real impact on the portfolio. So 7% to start :D
  15. I totally agree twacowfca. Please everyone vote for my stock for parents ideas :D They are all plus :D
  16. I found this tidbit from an recent interview quite interesting as can be seen on page 4 on the Pdf link below. All he did is have 5 names instead of 20-40 in the Capital fund. And all the stocks came from that fund as well. Really cool test :D "From June 30, 1984 to December 31, 2009, when I stepped down from lead management, the Capital Fund had compounded at approximately 15% per year. But this IRA account had a compound rate of return of 24%" http://www.fpafunds.com/docs/media/2013-07-31-vii-with-db-and-rr-with-disclosures-v2.pdf?sfvrsn=2
  17. fareastwarriors I am not smart enough to make a whole thesis on CHRW Dave Sather is president and founder of the Sather Financial Group, Made a 1h presentation on MOI on this. Basically saying its a slow 8% grower for the next 10 years.
  18. Happy to see he bought CHRW I just bought it today :D
  19. Its so hard like Mark's say we are in the upper middle. And Warren 80% positive then Seth negative all different arguments. But if we can be 66% right is to invest but hedge which both Seth and Perm is advocating. Almost bought March 139 puts at 1.44 was at 1.45 :D would have made a bit its 1.77 now. At least I have 20% cash. And with reversion to the mean I am better then the market. On average my portfolio of stocks is up 5% this year but total my portfolio is up 23%. Its dam hard but I cant complain about performance but maybe I am becoming complaisant about my skill/luck. That's my rant and non expertise about today's market.
