It's all so easy in hindsight. Put your boy DeBlasio, Biden, Schiff, Sanders, Pelosi, etc, etc in the game. Oh, wait - you might not have to do that: Schiff is gonna take another run at impeaching Trump for the Coronavirus. Now that is a party of leadership.

I’ll credit him with saving thousands AND with likely killing hundreds of thousands by convincing half the country who listens to him in the early days that it was no big deal, at exactly the time when small actions could’ve alerted the course of things majorly. How simplistic must one's thinking be to think that because I'd like epidemiological/public health decisions to be made by people who know these fields that I automatically think that organisations like the WHO are perfect and can't be wrong or haven't been politicized (which they shouldn't be, as the US response shouldn't have been turned into a partisan thing by Trump for weeks). I also blame China's politicization of the science, just like in the US. The two can be bad at the same time. Repeating other people's mistakes isn't a good thing, it's bad, and if you held Trump to anything close to the standards that you apply to the things you attack you'd see that. That's about the dumbest thing I've heard you say here. "WHO is not perfect?" - seriously? well why do the hell do they even exist? But I TOTALLY get your point Liberty: IT'S Trump's fault! With hindsight, that decision by Trump was a good one. I wish Canada had done the same thing at that time. I also think that his recent decision to extend ‘social distancing’ for 30 days was also a good move. I also like how he is being aggressive in removing government barriers to moving quickly with medical innovations (testing, medical equipment, vaccine etc). The China travel decision is a bit like congratulating the losing football team for making a first down in the first quarter. Except that you will never give him credit for saving thousands of American lives because you hate him so much. Trump had the balls to do it - and was roundly criticized. Tell me ---- What world leader handled this catastrophe courageously and quickly? Name them all for me please. Italy? WHO? China? UK?

Do you expect her to have a second job in another hospital? :) My relative who was cured in the end of Feb and had all symptoms back after 3 weeks at home and then got hospitalized again in a different hospital told us that she also saw a lot of new cases each day in that hospital. But never mind. The official number is 0, and production has resumed in the factories. So from the stock investor perspective outside of China, who cares what's really going on yeah? If See's does not have a moat - then why can't their profits be easily duplicated? If I remember Buffett's numbers - all told, there is approximately $90M invested in See's. That started with the $25M initial investment and another roughly $60-70M in expansion Capex. If See's has cranked out some $2B in profits since this purchase, maybe they are earning $100M/year? Not a fast growing business, but certainly with those enormous margins - they would have a target on them. But no one can hurt See's - so there is your moat.

Oh, yeah - don't disagree with the CoBF experts here. They have everyone's motivations figured out. And they just love to pile on.

I'm not so sure - if this gets as ugly as so many here expect (extended lockdown/deaths) - I can't see much but deflation. The destruction of consumer confidence, wealth and purchasing power look pretty massive to me. Some of this cash infusion will help mitigate - but unless this ends relatively quickly - I don't see any upward pressure on wages and a spending consumer. In the very long run, if the US brings back jobs in a big way - maybe. Let's hope so.

One of the best posts here. As it frames the strategic choice faced by the administration. Risk losing control of the virus and decimating the country? or perhaps we are over reacting? How about risk over reacting and risk the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans that will succumb to suicide and depression due to their financially ruined lives? It's a real dilemma - and in a few months we'll know whether the present administration walked the line successfully. We will come our of this - Trump will be judge accordingly. No doubt, if he locks down too hard and too long UNECESSARILY, the toll in lives will be greater than that of the virus. The President's job is to BALANCE the views of his medical experts and his economic advisors - and we will see if he successfully walks the line.
